Resumen

Muu Blanco (Caracas, Venezuela, 1966) is a multidisciplinary artist, video artist, and creator of multimedia installations based in Miami. Since the early 1990s, his practice has explored the relationship between image, sound, and the urban landscape through experimental video, sound art, performance, photography, and video mapping.

His early video works were produced using the Video8 format and later presented at the II Pirelli Salon of Young Artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas, where the complete series was acquired by the Noa Noa Collection. His work has been exhibited in institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas Sofía Imber, Sala Mendoza, the National Cinematheque of Caracas, and Mandragoras Art Space in New York.

Since relocating to Miami in 2014, Blanco has continued developing multimedia installations integrating video mapping, sound art, and performance, including his recent project NatuUrban Symphony (2024–2025).

Muu Blanco (Caracas, Venezuela, 1966) is a multidisciplinary artist, video artist, and creator of multimedia installations based in Miami. His artistic practice encompasses experimental video art, sound art, performance, photography, assemblage, installation, electronic music, and video mapping, developing since the early 1990s an ongoing investigation into the relationship between image, sound, and the urban landscape.

Blanco began working with experimental video art in the early 1990s, initially using the Video8 format as a tool for aesthetic exploration. His first participation in a collective exhibition with video took place in 1992, when one of his pieces was acquired by the collector Jimmy Belilty. From that moment, he began a continuous exploration of experimental audiovisual language.

In 1994 he participated in the group exhibition Mixed Techniques at Alternative Gallery in Caracas, one of his earliest presentations within the contemporary art exhibition circuit.

By 1995 he had produced more than thirty experimental video pieces, which were later presented at the II Pirelli Salon of Young Artists (1997) at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas, where the entire group of works was acquired by the private Noa Noa Collection of the Oberto family.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s he continued expanding his audiovisual research, documenting performances and developing experimental projects in video and sound.

In 2002 he participated in the exhibition From White Cube to Black Box: Historical Tapes, Creative Videos, Digital Art, Venezuelan Video at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas Sofía Imber. That same year he also participated in the project Multimedia Artist, Founder of the Center for the Arts, presented at the same institution. During this period he also contributed to the creation of the museum's video art collection, donating and placing twenty video artworks produced during that decade into the institution.

In 2003 he participated in the XI Eugenio Mendoza Prize at Sala Mendoza, Caracas.

In 2004 he presented the work Variations of the Eye. Videodance – Muu Blanco at the National Cinematheque of Caracas. That same year his work was included in the exhibition Electric Earth. Short Films and Videos from the UK and Venezuela, presented at Sala Mendoza, an international program dedicated to experimental video and short film.

In 2006 he presented an experimental video project at the Jacobo Borges Museum, developed in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut. The project focused on street vendors and the informal economy in the streets of Caracas, addressing the urban landscape as a social and political space.

Beginning in 2008 he started integrating expanded projection and video mapping into his multimedia installations. Later, in 2013, he developed a research project in slideshow and animated photographic portraiture, culminating that same year with his last solo exhibition in Venezuela, In Tha House, presented at Carmen Araujo Arte, a multimedia installation combining video, painting, sculpture, and sound.

In 2014 he held his first solo exhibition in New York City with the multimedia installation Black Point Venezuela, presented within the performance program of Mandragoras Art Space in Long Island City. The work integrated sound art, video mapping, sculpture, and analog collage, addressing the social and political tensions of the contemporary Venezuelan context.

That same year he moved to Miami, where he continues to develop much of his artistic production. In 2015 he presented Nuevo Pensamiento Compositivo Vol.1 at Arts Connection Foundation, within the Chill Concept space, an installation combining large-format photography, video mapping, and sound art.

Between 2017 and 2019 he developed a series of experimental audiovisual events and experiences at Ironside Miami, specifically at Espacio Santamantis, where he organized gatherings dedicated to video mapping and live experimental music.

Following the interruption of these creative spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 he co-founded the artistic collective IDArt Lab in the Allapattah neighborhood, active until 2023. Within this collective he participated in several group exhibitions presenting video mapping, experimental animations, and sound-responsive light performances accompanied by live sound art compositions.

His most recent project is the installation and sound art program NatuUrban Symphony, presented between November 2024 and January 2025 at the Arts Connection Foundation, integrating experimental music, dance, video mapping projections, and the presentation of his documentary NatuUrban Symphony.

Since 2017, Blanco has maintained the Instagram account @muublancovideoart as a living archive of his audiovisual production, documenting installations, performances, and video experiments developed during his last decade of work in Miami.

With more than three decades of artistic trajectory, Muu Blanco has developed a hybrid practice in which video, sound, technology, and performance function as devices to investigate urban culture, memory, and contemporary social tensions. His work is part of various international public and private collections.
